Mrs.
Seddon currently teaches the Full Day Kindergarten Program in Ontario. This is
Mrs. Seddon's sixth year as a teacher. She has taught at various schools in
both the primary and junior divisions.
Mrs.
Seddon has an Honours degree in Child Studies, a certificate in Early Childhood
Education, and a Masters in Child Studies and Education. During her
undergraduate degree she focused her research on special education and behavioural
disorders. After completing her undergraduate degree she worked in residential
treatment centers for youth with severe behaviours leading child, parent, and
family group therapy sessions. It was during her graduate work that she learned
about Reggio Emilia, the classroom as the third teacher, inquiry based
learning, and emergent curriculum. These philosophies continue to guide her in
both her practical and theoretical practices.
Mrs. Seddon and
Mrs. Bell's kindergarten program centers around the philosophies of Reggio
Emilia and Environmental Inquiry. They believe in the importance of the
environment as a third teacher. Mrs. Seddon has a passion for designing spaces
that provoke inquiry and engagement and that incorporate natural elements.
Mrs. Seddon
believes that every child is naturally curious and has an innate love for
learning. She believes that the role of the educator is to help children
recognize and appreciate the natural world around them, and to help foster a
love of inquiry, research, and wonder so that they may be lifelong learners.
Mrs. Seddon and
Mrs. Bell created this blog as a means of showcasing and documenting student
learning and growth. They also wanted to show their personal journey with
inquiry and play-based learning. They consider themselves co-learners who aim
to model their enthusiasm and sense of wonder for the children.
